I purchased an Erie auto insurance policy through this office a couple of years ago with a business-use endorsement, making it abundantly clear to the agent at the time how I would be using my vehicle for for-hire transportation. I had no issues with Erie or Reliable Insurance Solutions for quite some time, and even referred several new customers to them. After sending another referral their way last fall, I received an email from Lisa Dillon saying that I needed to make an appointment to speak with the owner, Kurt Watt, ASAP because I needed to "understand exactly what coverage is provided by the policy". I politely replied to her email with excerpts from the policy that explicitly granted me the ability to use my vehicle for-hire with my policy, because I actually did read every single word of my policy upon purchasing it, multiple times, and I did completely understand my coverage.
2) My interpretation was correct - my policy did include language that explicitly allowed for-hire transportation as an acceptable use of the vehicle, and I was not using the vehicle contrary to the uses allowed to me in the policy as it was written,
1) Kurt's behavior was completely unacceptable and he would be reprimanded for it (I don't know if any disciplinary action was ever taken, but they insisted it would not be tolerated),
A+ wisdom and service. Kurt is the best insurance agent we have had in 39 years of marriage in 6 different communities -- and most of the others were very good!
I have waited for 6 months since I purchased an auto+renters insurance from Reliable Insurance Solutions to post this review. During this time, Crystal and other employees I have dealt with have treated me with respect and have been quite honest in their dealing. Crystal explained the right amounts of coverage I would need and patiently answered all my questions. I referred a couple of friends to Reliable Insurance and would continue to do so in the future as well!
I've used Kurt Watt and his staff at Reliable Insurance Solutions for over 9 years. They're very quick to respond, have good rates, and great coverage. They're always ready to answer my questions and take time to understand what I'm asking to make sure they get me the correct answer. I use them for personal auto, home, business, and life insurance. They have multiple carriers and look to get me the best rates and coverage.
My policy is expiring soon, so I feel safe posting this review now. I will probably return to USAA where I was a satisfied customer for many years but had only left to join Erie because of their reputation and availability for business use. I am disappointed that Kurt felt it was appropriate to treat a customer this way, and I am sure he will continue to run a successful business, but I hope this review will give others pause and give them an opportunity to evaluate how they are treated by people at this office before choosing to do business with them. Perhaps Kurt has learned the error of his ways - but I've never once received an apology from him and I don't ever expect to.
3) The underwriters actually never should have written the policy, so even though I was correct and they would continue to honor my policy through its expiration date, they would not be able to renew it in that state because the underwriters had messed up in the first place (this seemed fair to me), and
I called Erie's corporate offices to report the incident and confirm that my coverage would continue since I had just received a threat that my policy would be canceled. On that phone call, I learned the following:
Shortly thereafter, I found myself on the phone with Kurt, who told me he was "pissed" that I had written that email (the one where I quoted the policy verbatim, which is somehow offensive). He quickly implied that the agent who sold me the policy in the first place was a dishonest person and that's why they no longer worked for him (even if that's true, how is that my fault?). He then proceeded to yell at me over the phone, and demanded that I find another insurance agent before abruptly hanging up on me. The entire phone call lasted only 2-3 minutes. I was pretty taken aback by this lack of professionalism (and apparent lack of understanding of my insurance policy by someone who is supposed to be familiar with these things).
4) Erie is a great insurance company. I'd still recommend them to anyone - just don't go through Kurt's office. I regret ever sending more business his way now that I have learned how rude and unprofessional he is. He was willing to burn a bridge with a customer over a very simple misunderstanding (his misunderstanding, to wit) rather than seek clarification from his superiors before yelling at me and threatening to cancel my policy.
Thanks Kurt!
My wife and I were extremely happy that Kurt Watt was our insurance agent after our daughter totaled her car. We spent the early morning hours of Nov 1 in the emergency room. My daughter and her friend were okay, but thanks to Kurt and Reliable Insurance the entire process of navigating through the medical claims and insurance adjuster for the totaled car were a breeze. Everyone likes to complain about the high expense of insurance, but when you need it you realize it's worth every penny.
