On my fourth year I moved back to a property from Commercial Brokers, and I have been living there for almost four years now. It really has been a pleasure living with them again. They are very understanding and treat me with courtesy and respect.
Commercial Brokers Inc. is not worth the money. We had to break our lease because my husband lost his job. Fortunately we still own our home in SC. We moved back to SC, but returned to our rented unit to retrieve some small items including dish soap and a night light and the place had been painted with fresh oil-based paint. My father-in-law was also with us and smelled fresh paint. We visited their office to return the keys and complete the paperwork. When my husband asked who had painted the unit without notifying us (because we had not yet broke the lease and still had keys), both Michelle and Brad (the maintenance employee) denied it. My father-in-law confirmed it smelled like paint and was called a liar by both Michelle and Brad. My husband and myself were accused of being "aggressive" and "liars" who were trying to get out of the lease. My father-in-law said we were "assertive," not "aggressive." He has 24 years with the US Army as an E7 NCO and has served a tour of duty in Iraq. He is qualified to recognize aggression far better than Michelle or Brad. He was also a third party whom neither Michelle nor Brad have ever met and they both called him a liar. My husband has also served a tour of duty in Iraq. I believe neither Brad nor Michelle expected us to return to the unit and retrieve our small, insignificant items and proceeded to have the unit painted. We caught them in violation of their own lease and both responded with immediate defensiveness, insults, and threats. My husband, myself, and my father-in-law maintained a calm demeanor the entire time. Michelle was the one who became shaky, red in the face, and aggressive. She threatened to have us removed by a cop who was conveniently located on the scene. My husband suggested we, along with Michelle and Brad, go with the officer to the unit to do the final walk through and he could confirm it smelled like fresh paint. They refused and said we would hear from their attorneys, another ploy of people who know they've been caught. We left and returned to SC.
I would not even give them a 1 star, but I had to give atleast 1 star to make a review! Lets get started on why this is the absolute worst place to rent from...
We have been so lucky to work with Michelle several times and couldn't be happier with all of our experiences with her. She listed our old house for us and a lot, which both sold very quickly, as Michelle goes above and beyond to find the right buyers for properties she lists. Not only did she sell our old home quickly (which she found for us), she also helped us find our house that we live in now, which we are completely in love with. Each time we have worked with her, she has made the process a piece of cake, by always keeping us updated and informed on the process. Michelle has been there for every real estate need we have had and we would never choose any one else! All of our experiences have been stress-free with Michelle's knowledge, detail, care and professionalism. I would recommend her to anyone looking to buy or sell a home!
I am a graduate student at Purdue University, when I first moved to Purdue I rented my first apartment from Commercial Brokers Inc, and I had an extremely positive experience. Despite this I made a TERRIBLE mistake, I leased from a different company on my second year because I wanted to live 1 minute away from campus. It was a nightmare. On my third year I moved with a friend and rented from a third company. And they were ok.
Both properties I moved into were in excellent condition. It really is a shame I am graduating this year and will have to move to a different city, I wish I can rent from a company as professional and dedicated as this one where I am going.
Another issue was the lack of privacy. Every week, we received emails about people coming in to do general maintenance or inspections. My husband is a heavy structural mechanic and welder who is specially trained to repair military aircraft, so I am confident that he could have replaced the furnace filter and repaired the leaky faucet himself. One person who was sent to our unit by Commercial Brokers Inc. stayed for five and a half hours. We even caught the owner looking into our windows over breakfast one morning. The repairs were not requested by us, but unnecessary repairs that the new owner of the unit requested. It was an invasion of our privacy. Brad even sent three emails in one day changing the date and time of the appointment. He was very incompetent and obviously did not respect our time and schedules or he would have sent one email with the correct date and time to begin with.
Cindy is great! And so is Brad, our maintenance guy. He has fixed any and all issues that have presented themselves promptly and efficiently.
We paid them a total security deposit of 1800$. We have two dogs, one was a puppy that chewed the carpet which we figured our security deposit would take care of that damage. But they show up to change the furnace filter and then two days later write a big email to us saying we have to pay them another deposit and get new carpet in before april 1st which was 1 month away or our two dogs would have to leave. So we paid them the 1000 deposit and paid 1500 in all new carpet. We didnt get it because of dog hair, paw prints, one window blind missing, and a couple other made up things. We moved in that house with already damage and they charged for things that were there from the previous renters. Now an even bigger problem we had there is with the manager BRAD. he is absolutely horrible and so unprofessional. We found SNAKES in our siding of the house, under the porch, under the trash cans, so there was obviously a snake nest. His reply back to me was, "they are probably just garter snakes" they never took care of the snake problem. That was bizzar having snakes around our house IN TOWN! tgere were several other things with Brad that was rude and unprofessional and all they wanted was to charge us for anything they could think of!!! OVER that rental company and glad to be OUT!! PLEASE dont go through them!!!! Find a person to rent from!! So much better!!
I am a graduate student at Purdue University and have been renting a house through Commercial Brokers for over 3 years. During this time, I have had excellent experiences from having pleasant meeting for signing the lease and changing tenants on the lease, to having very quick and reliable maintenance assistance by Brad throughout our stay. I have also received many e-mails with tips regarding protecting the house over the winter. I would highly recommend Commercial Brokers to anyone.
The rent is not worth what you get. We payed almost $800 per month for no privacy, very little living space, and a tiny yard. Our home in SC is $650 per month mortgage. We have 1.5 acres of land, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. Fortunately, SC is abundant with jobs and we both realize there really is no place like home. I sincerely hope Brad and Michelle,and any prospective renters, read this. Enjoy the snow and cold temperatures! As for us, we are on our way to beautiful Kiawah Island beach and then to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
